The volcano Gunung Api

Gunung Api, this famous volcano was several times painted erupting during colonial times. It was said that ships often found the islands by its smoke. True or not it did erupt in 1988 destroying 3 villages and creating massive lava flows that can still be seen. Today it still smokes occasionally, but is better known for the view from its peak. Visiting the volcano and the climb to its crater provide an unsurpassed panoramic view of the islands. Be sure to take your camera and visit the cinnamon plantation on the way back.
